David Phillips is a Mindsheet associate who is an expert consultant in the security field. He specializes in Brand Protection, Supply Chain Protection, and Document Security. David Phillips also consults on systems and technologies to thwart terrorism through explosive, nuclear, and biological attacks. He is a frequent speaker and presenter at conferences.
Mr. Phillips has over 30 years of multi-national and diversified business development experience as an executive, starting with ICI in London. He has been the founding CEO of two companies involved in brand protection, document security, and supply chain management.
Prior to becoming President and CEO of PhotoSecure, a photonics company, Mr. Phillips was President and CEO of Biocode, a biotechnology start-up company that offers antibody detection methodology for brand protection through product marking. Biocode was one of the founding companies of Authentix, recently acquired by Carlyle for $100 million.
Earlier in his career, he was President and CEO of two specialty chemical companies. He served as CEO of the Sherex Chemical Company, Inc. with sales of $200 million/year and returned Sherex to substantial profitability after four years of losses. Prior to this assignment, he performed a similar role for Rio Tinto Zinc Plc where, as CEO of Alcolac, he increased sales threefold to $150 million/year and quadrupled operating profit.
David Phillips is well-known at senior levels in the chemical industry and has served on the Board of the National Petroleum Refiners Association. He is an operating partner of private equity companies, notably MVC Capital, a New York Stock Exchange company, and before that, Bain Capital. He has connections with Carlyle which has high-level Government relations in Washington and in Capital cities throughout the world.
David Phillips has worked with local government agencies in Boston, in New York, and Baltimore. He has contacts in the FBI, CIA, Homeland Security, Airport Security (Boston Logan), Coastguard, Police, Fire Services, Emergency Response, and Stadium Security. He can also access decision makers in Homeland Security’s Container Security Initiative, NJ, NY, PA, and RI container ports, Port of Providence, Boston Harbor, Sea Line (Saltchuk Corp), Evergreen, and Maersk/Hapag-Lloyd, Sea Star Line, Public Service Electric & Gas, and the US National Grid.
Mr. Phillips has a B.A. (Honors), B.Sc., and M.A. all from Oxford University, where he majored in Chemistry. Â He was born in the United Kingdom but has lived in the U.S.A. for the last 30 years and is a United States citizen. His main residence and office are in Boston.
